What is Neurotology?
Neurotology is a medical speciality that focuses on diagnosing and treating disorders related to the ears and the nervous system, particularly those involving the inner ear and balance. Neurotologists are trained to manage conditions such as vestibular schwannoma, vertigo, dizziness, hearing loss, and disorders affecting the inner ear, facial nerve, and brainstem. They also perform surgical procedures to treat these conditions, such as cochlear implants or treatments for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).
What is Otology?
Otology is a branch of otorhinolaryngology that focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders of the ear. This includes conditions such as hearing loss, ear infections, cholesteatoma, tinnitus, and abnormalities of the ear structure. Otologists are medical doctors who specialize in treating these conditions and may use a combination of medical and surgical treatments to help improve ear health and function. Patients with certain forms of hearing loss may benefit from implantable hearing solutions.
